Blogging/Mircroblogging

March 6, 2017

Social media is an outlet for anyone to use to promote and share their ideas. Sometimes we use social media for sports, fashion, music, entertainment, politics or anything that can be talked about with a group of people. This weekend I went through all my social media outlets, I've noticed from my twitter to my blog that everything I talk about is related to sports like hockey, football or baseball or it is about photography and the beach. I didn't realize that when I went through most of my followers new and old that most of them are sports accounts tweeting or posting pictures about everything that is going on within those sports. Or that I follow people who post pictures of the beach or city as I do in my free time exploring New York or the Hamptons when I'm home on the weekends.

For our homework, we had to study the habits of two people we follow in their expert areas. So when I went through my twitter I picked two sports on is the New York Rangers Twitter account @NYRangers -(https://twitter.com/NYRangers) and the other account I looked at was Bar South N Celly - @BarSouthNCelly (https://twitter.com/BarSouthNCelly). These are two hockey accounts but they are totally different in so many ways but they are in the same expert area. The New York Rangers account tweets solely about the Rangers, what the team is doing, the score of the game, whose scores, the outcome and just interesting facts about the team. Their habits are to keep the fans and other teams update to on what the team is doing and how the impact they are having in the community and the hockey world. They are experts in Rangers hockey and not any other team in the league, which shows why everything in the weekend and all this time that I've been following them has just been about Rangers and the coaches, players, the rookies, prospects and anything else that they can relate to the team. While Bar South N Celly, is also a twitter account about hockey, it is an expert area is everything that is going on in the hockey world not just one team or the NHL. While looking at this account this weekend and all the time I've been following them when they started following me on twitter. They post videos, pictures and memes, and gifs of stuff that happen in pee wee hockey games to the NHL. They are projecting to a bigger crowd in that they aren't sticking to one area. They are experts with this because they are following all hockey fans from fans of every NHL team to college teams to pee wee teams. You see the impact on these two accounts on its followers because even though you might not like something they say or do in the long run they are giving you the information you want to see. Some can be good and some can be bad but it works everything in the end.

Also looking through these accounts and others I realize that my niche and everything is mostly sports but my followers are mostly friends, family but sports accounts. My bio on my social media accounts don't always have what my interest are in but my profile or header photo does show my interest. I also noticed my niche but what I tweet and post about, even looking through Facebook I've noticed I post pictures of Rangers games or wanting to be at the beach or somewhere on Long Island. The impact of social media and blogging is something bigger than we really know until we go through everything we have and realize we really group ourselves with certain people and block out everything we don't want to see or hear about.
